When you travel, it is important to understand and be aware of the culture that you are traveling to. There is more than one lens to which we can view the world. One traveler reminded me of this quite boldly. This is what she said:
‘Tourists come into a new culture in a bubble. They see paradise, yet they manage not to trip over the trash.”
-Stephanie (Cameron Highlands, Malaysia, June 2017)
She was referring to the ignorance of some travelers who are so absorbed in their own entertainment that they end up with a false perception of that place. They enjoy the food and change in scenery, but somehow look past the corruption and suffering that is right in front of their eyes.
